Maria Whittingham, pupil recruitment supervisor at CGI, embraced a golden possibility 5 years ago whenever she embarked on a sponsored level apprenticeship.
Gaining a debt-free, BA (Hons) level while simultaneously gaining valuable work experience with us had been, inside her own words, “invaluable”. Now, 5 years on, we consult with Maria to discover exactly exactly what life is similar to at CGI.
You work with a male-dominated industry sector – exactly exactly how has CGI ensured you’re feeling welcome into the working environment?
We have constantly thought supported at CGI.
We joined up with in 2014 in the sponsored degree apprenticeship. Initially, I became worried me would be limited that i’d miss out on the social side of university or that the network of people with similar interests to.
I needn’t have worried! There’s lots taking place at CGI. For instance, the activities and club that is social which organises enjoyable tasks where you are able to fulfill like-minded individuals, in addition to ‘working together’ initiatives into the workplaces.
Recently, CGI in addition has offered self-defence classes for ladies, that I think is very good, because it supplies the chance to learn a skill that is new.
The culture at CGI is extremely friendly and inviting and it also certainly is like a balanced work place!

We feel I’ve been in a position to contour my profession at CGI.
I didn’t have any specific industry experience, but I had a passion to learn when I first joined in 2014.
I’ve been in a position to work with projects at CGI which suited my set of skills, and had plenty of help around us to aid develop and advance my job.
5 years after joining being an apprentice, we now manage our UK school leaver recruitment, that I love!
